The Institute of Internal Auditors-India is affiliated to its parent body in Florida, USA which provides Internal Auditing Practitioners, Executive Management, Board of Directors with standards, guidance and information on best practices. The Institute also conducts the Certified Internal Auditor exam, which is the hallmark of excellence in internal auditing worldwide.
The IIA-India has six chapters - Bangalore, Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi, Hyderabad and Madras - and conducts seminars, workshops and conferences on a regular basis as also the CIA exam in all chapter locations. The IIA Journal and Chapter newsletters are also distributed to the members.
The spate of major financial scams of the last few years worldwide, particularly at senior management levels, have clearly demonstrated the imperatives of a sound corporate governance structure. Towards this end, internal auditing has been recognized as one of the four critical pillars of good governance, whose span embraces inter-alia, risk management and controls.
